Hadspen Exhibition

When Niall Hobhouse commissioned internationally renowned Foreign Office Architects to develop a proposal for the future layout of the garden, a lively and spontaneous discussion developed on-line through the website that questioned the role of architects in garden design and the relationship and hierarchy between gardener, designer and owner.

The exhibition at the The Museum of Garden History aims to develop the ideas generated by the online debate and to consider the historical precedents for partnerships between gardeners and architects. Images from the museum collection will prompt the visitor to think about partnerships such as Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson, and Gertrude Jekyll and Edwin Lutyens.

The exhibition runs from 28th June - 15th September 2007, and the museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday 10.30am to 5.00pm. Museum admission is a suggested donation of £3 per adult and £2.50 concessions.

The exhibition will include a model of the larger site (made by Yseult Ogilvie), which has an inset element that represents the Walled Garden alone. A photograph of this model is available at Hadspen in Pictures.
